Day 3

Boston all day. We walked about 8.5 miles around central Boston. Did all the tourist stuff: freedom trail, north church, Faneuil hall, Quincy market, Bunker Hill etc. We had a nice lunch in an Italian place in the North (Italian) District. When we were walking there, we noticed that at least 50% of the people were carrying boxes from Mike’s bakery. We stopped there and admired all the amazing pastries, but decided to skip it because (1) we were too full, and (2) the line was way too long. Near the Boston City Hall, we saw a very interesting and symbolic holocaust memorial. It was set of five green glass towers/chimneys with steam rising from the ground under each of them. There is a walkway going through them and a marble tablet with a quote warning about consequences of not taking action against evil. Very timely… Instead, we had high tea on the ship when we got back. It was quite a production. They even brought a timer for Bo’s tea so it steeps exactly 3 minutes. The passengers on this cruise are mostly elderly, but very well maintained. No fat or obese people here. There’s a mix of nationalities, too --- lots of Brits, Australians and quite a few Germans… Tonight was a “formal night”, and these people really mean formal = “tuxedos or dark suits + tie for men and cocktail dresses or suits for women”. Of course, we didn’t pack anything this formal so we were wondering if they’d kick us out of the dining room. They didn’t and we had the most fun night with the same dinner companions are before. We all ended up in a bar drinking “white Nile” martinis and laughing non-stop…
